Alaska February 2009
I arrived the last day of January and have survived the first couple weeks in the great state of Alaska. Driving in the snow and ice has been a new experience. So far, so good!
My temporary quarters look out towards Cook Inlet and the Kenai mountains. The same mountains that include the active volcano at Mt. Redoubt. Here is a link to a webcam from a Unocal platform about 38 miles SE of the volcano. http://www.avo.alaska.edu/webcam/Redoubt_-_CI.php
The pictures posted on the site are from my back door looking out to the Cook Inlet. It had recently snowed so it was a beautiful view with the mountains in the background.
Alaska beauty is so much more in person. The pictures are great, however don't do it justice like when you see it with your own eyes.
The cold here is much drier than the southeast (Georgia). It is cold, but not that wet cold that seems to go thru you so much faster.
I'm settling in at work and home and learning my way around. The traffic is so mild compared to the craziness in Atlanta. It's like paradise when you add the fresh air and wide open spaces.
I will be posting more pictures as soon as I can get a clear day to take some new angles.
